Beginning Internet marketers get a lot of advice, both good and bad. Sometimes, Internet marketers, in their quest to make big money fast, make decisions that may end up costing them money in the end. Internet marketing, while lucrative for some, is not a get rich quick scheme, but rather a business that needs careful thought and earnest effort to grow.
One of the things that some Internet marketers try is to register a domain name that is almost identical to a well established, well trafficked domain already in existence. They do this with the hope that visitors to the original site will simply misspell that site's url and land on their site instead. While some marketers are under the impression that this is easy, built - in traffic that won't require much effort on their part, the practice really is quite risky, especially with the enaction of legislation to prevent such.
Often, the original website will buy the " dummy " domain in order to get their traffic back and this is one reason Internet marketers go this route. They hope the successful domain will get a headache from their dummy domain and offer them big bucks for it. However, it doesn't always work out that way. Sometimes, a lawsuit is filed and the fledgling Internet marketer is forced to relinquish the dummy domain and then has lost whatever time, effort, and money he or she has put into it.

After all, if you're getting someone else's traffic, how targeted is that traffic to your site in the first place? Chances are, it's not targeted traffic at all and thus won't result in many, if any sales. You would be better advised to spend your time, money, and efforts and creating an optimized website that is targeted to your niche and will result in repeat customers with whom you have built relationships rather than trying to coast on the coattails of the big dogs.
Cybersquatting, as this practice is sometimes called, is popular with pornographers and adult site owners who are unable to use many of the conventional marketing methods to advertise their sites because many conventional methods of advertising on the Internet, especially the free ones, do not welcome adult content so this is just one way these site owners try to increase the traffic to their sites
You should give careful thought to the name of your domain or website before you get started with Internet marketing. You want it to be something easy to remember and, of course, if it is catchy that will help. While you might have some initial success with cybersquatting, most Internet marketers worth their salt choose instead to spend their money, time, and effort on making a name and reputation for themselves rather than using deception to bring in traffic.
